Sunshine Coast Dietetics: Tips for Children Who Are Fussy Eaters

Feeding children can be one of the hardest tasks a parent undertakes, particularly with today’s vast range of colourful and highly-flavoured food, complete with superheroes adorning the packaging. Most children are likely to become ‘fussy’ at some stage in their development, whether it is picking at their food, pushing away their plate, eating only a few of their favourite foods, or flat out refusing meals. In these cases, GPs are likely to be one of the first ports of call for parents who are desperate to get their little ones to eat.  Accredited Practising Dietitians recommend a few tips to help parents manage children’s food fussiness.

Do not beg or push children to eat
Studies have indicated that when parents insist their children eat particular vegetables, a dislike of those foods they have been ‘forced’ to eat often continues into their adulthood. A better option is to present children with a range of vegetables on their plate (including some they like), and sit with them to enjoy dinner quietly, not interrupting or coaxing them into eating. Whether they choose to eat it is up to them, but it is important to keep offering a range of vegetables from which they can choose, including those that have been refused previously.

Do not offer dessert as a reward
Sweet foods are easy to eat and very palatable for children. This can, in turn, give the message that savoury foods are less enjoyable. It is okay to provide dessert foods as part of a family meal, but not as a mechanism for encouraging a child to eat.

Do not praise children for eating
Eating is and should be a pleasurable experience, unless there are other issues, such as food allergies or intolerances, present. Praising children for a behaviour that is natural can lead to the need for ongoing encouragement and praise for every meal and snack.

What else can parents do?
It is helpful to be a good role model and enjoy meals with children. Children are likely to eat the foods that their parents eat on a daily basis, so encouraging parents to regularly eat healthy foods in front of their children is crucial to uptake and acceptance of these foods. This approach teaches the child the food is safe and part of normal, everyday nutrition. Enjoying meals together has a positive impact on children’s health, particularly those of school age. It increases intake of vegetables, fruit and dairy foods, and decreases consumption of unhealthy foods.
While eating every meal together may not be realistic, increased benefit is seen with more meals shared. Encouraging children to play with the food, either with a utensil or with their hands, and to get messy, can be helpful. They should gradually put some in their mouth and may spit back out, but that is a step closer to eating and enjoying that food.

Some other key pointers that can be offered to parents include:
• Turning off the television and other distractions
• Leaving children to eat in peace (keeping an eye from a distance)
• Letting children make some mess
• Mixing foods they already like with some they don’t
• Making sure their feet are always supported while eating
• Focusing on weekly, rather than daily, intake (children will have days where they eat more or less)
• Serving dinner foods at lunch time – this may help if they are tired at the end of the day
• Making sure they are not drinking too much milk (no more than 600 ml per day)

Guest Blogger: Rhys Greedy: Kilimanjaro for the Kids

Firstly, a big thankyou to SCHF for giving me the opportunity to contribute to their page and tell a little more of the story behind my current project, Kilimanjaro for the Kids. Although the start of this journey only dates back to September last year, it has been an overwhelming response and action plan by all involved over the past 8 months for this campaign to get to where it is now. But to start from the beginning....

Rhys in the French Alps, 2015
July 2015 – I had just returned back into Australia from an expedition in the French Alps, in which I successfully reached the summit of Mont Blanc at 4810m elevation. A personal tick off the bucket list yes, but also in the process of training for this feat had managed to raise almost $15,000 towards Lymphoma Australia, an organisation close to me as I personally battled Hodgkin Lymphoma back in 2009. I could feel that within myself, something felt quite lost as the weeks progressed following the conclusion of this campaign and also the physical challenge of the climb, which was almost a 12 month preparation (including a 3 week trip to Nepal to try and accustom my body to the symptoms of altitude and extreme cold etc). It was hard to find any sort of motivation going from 100-0 and after such a publicised effort had reached its end all of a sudden. With the help of good friend and then PT out of Goodlife Health Club Caloundra, Ryan O’Neil, I took part in a 6 week challenge to try and find my mojo. To be honest it had little effect on me, I should have been pleased about the drop in body fat percentage (6.5%) and strength maintained in the gym, however for me these are goals that provide little to no satisfaction in the bigger picture. I have never been one to want to train just to look the part, if there is no genuine level of fitness behind it then what is the point? That may offend some, but I had a complete mind switch following my cancer diagnosis and have strived to push myself physically in areas of training that the norm don’t like to take part in, not just aim to achieve muscle hypertrophy and an ego boost.

September 2015 – At this point, I was smack bang in the middle of my toughest uni semester as a studying paramedic student, and also still trying to find the desire I so easily maintained for an extended period during my Trek Towards a Cure Campaign. At around the same time, a few mates and I started to toss up the idea of locking in a trip together for 2016. It was nice to have this conversation, travelling solo over to Europe to tackle what I did would have been so much more enjoyable with someone else. The conversation quickly turned to Africa, and more specifically Mount Kilimanjaro. At 5895m, it is the highest peak on the continent, 1 of the 7 summits, and the tallest free standing mountain on earth. To explain that, Kili is not part of any mountain range, such as the Himalayas or the Andes, so its height stands alone. 4 guys (including myself) began to nut out availability and possible companies to lock the trip in through, however a much more important element of the trip came into conversation, and that was to find a local charity to coincide with what we intended to achieve. I set out to find a suitable someone/group/organisation to team up with and make this experience more worthwhile, rather than to just come back with personal satisfaction of conquering another mountain. For some reason, I was drawn to walk through the doors of Nambour General Hospital one day and seek out a ward to offer my assistance with a fundraising effort. Initially, the idea of sticking with the theme of cancer and assisting those who I knew all too well were going through seemed appropriate. However on my way to the oncology ward, my eyes caught a sign reading ‘Ward 2F West – Paediatrics’.

Meeting some of the kids at Ward 2F West, Nambour Hospital
I straight away changed direction and headed over to this ward; and entering the doors with a hat on backwards, singlet and board shorts the first glance a nurse gave me didn’t exactly give off a good first impression! A brief conversation followed, and I was met with more surprised and confused looks as I described my intentions of going to Africa to trek up a mountain, and raising enough money to upgrade some of the electronics gear in the ward and also give them a boost in the funds that are utilised for music, yoga and other therapies for the young patients. From there I was linked up with Sunshine Coast Wishlist Foundation, who have played an integral part in providing for Ward 2F West, and I guess the rest is history! Fast forward to this point now and all that was a simple idea has blown out into a Sunshine Coast wide community effort. The number of local businesses that jumped on board from the moment I first released a video displaying my intentions has been very humbling; from having a donations tin on the counter to hosting an event. Awareness through social media and also local media (92.7 Mix FM, WIN News and Sunshine Coast Daily) has helped spread the word and increase the number of donations tenfold. A result of this was the opportunity months in advance to walk through the doors of the ward and surprise the staff and young patients with everything that I had originally set out to donate to them. A 58 inch LCD TV, Xbox One console with games and extra controller, 10 portable DVD players and 50 DVD’s, 10 Samsung Galaxy Tablets which are in the process of getting 12 months WiFi access within the ward, plus more! And it doesn’t stop there, with more money rolling in and a few more events on the way, I also intend to present the Ward with a $10,000 cheque to boost the funds for what I previously mentioned. As time has gone on with this campaign, during certain periods I have become quite emotional in seeing how close the community bands together to help those in need.

One of the many community fundraising efforts, Mt Coolum Climb organised by Kai Chase

This isn’t a ploy to have myself placed on a pedestal or be seen as some sort of hero, I am simply abiding by the saying ‘you haven’t lived until you have given something to someone who can never repay you’. The motives behind this campaign strike far deeper than just the smiles on faces when I surprised the ward with all of those goods, or receiving a hug or handshake from a complete stranger who have been following this journey. It’s a character building stepping stone that I feel has been needed in my life for a long time. I very easily shook off my own diagnosis of Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2009 when deemed in remission, returned to work in the Army and thought nothing of how my position could benefit others, and reach out to those in similar circumstances who would get so much hope out of someone like me telling them ‘you are going to get through this’. Walking the Kokoda Trail in 2014, I had a sudden desire to want to return from that trip and make a difference in people’s lives, and that’s exactly how I have tried to live, that’s right live not exist, my life since then. Once this journey wraps up, I have no doubt in the near future another one will be planned for next year or the following, a simple combination of a physical challenge and a local initiative, it sure can create waves.

In terms of physical preparation, I am always one that would rather be over prepared for a physical challenge such as Mount Kilimanjaro, than not. I began my first training steps in November, and have progressed to the point now where a personal 12 week program I am almost through will see my body in the best shape of its life for the challenge to be undertaken. I am often asked what is required physically to ensure success on these sorts of ventures, and to me it’s very simple, lungs and legs. Strengthening lower limb and respiratory endurance has been key in my training program week to week; with a range of HIIT sessions, hill sprints, pack marches with elevation mask, leg isolation workouts, and soft sand endurance sessions all involved. Keeping on top of the mental battle during my training has proved crucial, like anyone I sometimes have doubts creeping in and its necessary to shake those thoughts. My trainer and mentor out of Tribal MMA, Paul Birch, has been a pivotal part in keeping my head in the game. I can’t thank him enough for picking out when things for me feel too hard with this campaign, and always reminding me why I am doing it….. ‘For the Kids’…

Rhys and his mentor Paul Birch from Tribal MMA

The remaining 9 weeks of Kilimanjaro for the Kids will see hopefully a big boost in the ever growing pool of funds that have been coming in since the donations link was created. I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart of their generosity, by seeing face to face within the ward the happiness that has been brought through those precious funds. On July 2nd, myself and 6 others will start the journey over to Tanzania, where 5895m of harsh terrain, extreme temperatures and high altitude awaits. I have no doubt the success of that summit will be brought on not by personal strengths or goals, but having the bigger picture of standing at the top and holding up our banner to represent the Coast’s youngest patients and the fulfilling 10 months that began with only a small idea…

Community Blogger Angelique: Review #2 JaycasFit Activewear

Late last year, the Van Vuuren Bros published a hilarious YouTube clip called ACTIVEWEAR. The video brilliantly portrayed women who are very busy, doing very NON-ACTIVE things in their latest and greatest ACTIVEWEAR. If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check it out below, I promise it will have you in stitches! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYRENWT8lz8

The reason I find this parody so incredibly entertaining, is because it’s me all over! Whether it’s buying groceries in my ACTIVEWEAR, having coffee with my friends in my ACTIVEWEAR, even going to the movies in my ACTIVEWEAR… you name it, I do it! In my defence I do teach six yoga sessions a week, but is that really a good enough reason to practically live in my ACTIVEWEAR?
I say hell yes, especially when you can support local business owners like Kathryn and Ben from Sunshine Coasts own JAYCAS FIT ACTIVEWEAR. With a keen interest in health, happiness and fitness, the husband and wife duo believe that beauty is not just about the body but about the spark that shines from within each individual.

Angelique selecting her winners prize with Kathryn from JaycasFit Activewear

My favourite pieces from the range are the Caroline Padded Sports Bras and the Elizabeth Tank Tops. While these items look fantastic together, I also love teaming them with other bits and pieces from my ever-expanding personal ACTIVEWEAR wardrobe.  The Sports Bra looks fantastic under a loose-fitting side less singlet top and it provides an AMAZING level of support and shape to the bust. The Elizabeth Tank has truly become my absolute favourite top for just about every yoga session I lead! It’s a razorback style that hugs nicely onto the body, while allowing a little extra length to prevent it from riding up above the pant line while you workout. The JAYCAS range also offers a great selection of tights and jackets, perfect as the cooler months of the year begin to approach.

So whether you’re just looking for some great new pieces to wear while you workout or you’re ready to join the growing number of women are choosing to sport their ACTIVEWEAR while they busily go about their NON-ACTIVE day, be sure to check out JAYCAS FIT ACTIVEWEAR either online or at a pop up store near you!

Anna G Lifestyle: Why ‘Buddies’ Are BETTER!

It’s 5am. The alarm goes off, so you hit snooze and roll over hoping to grab another 10-20 minutes of shut-eye… As you are lying there slowly drifting off into dreamland something sparks your mind into its conscious state and you sit bolt upright in bed. Now you have to get up. Not just because you had planned to exercise, but because your buddy will be waiting for you! In fact, they are probably at the gym already so you really need to get moving.

Now, this may not ring true for everyone, I know there are people happy to workout alone, but for the vast majority of us, a workout buddy is not just better - it’s a necessity! Motivation can be hard to find from within all the time, but when you know your friend is waiting you pull yourself out of bed, put your runners on and get your butt moving…

Workout buddies don’t just provide motivation and companionship, they can also help to give you a sense of accomplishment. When you hit a personal best with your fitness, like running an extra kilometer or push yourself to do 10kg more on the press or even climb a mountain and reach the top when you normally would stop halfway, your buddy is always there to cheer you on and celebrate your success with you. Someone to push you when the word ‘can’t’ comes into your mind and also someone to laugh with you when you have a moment of near miss or embarrassment as we all know these are bound to happen at some point when we are working out!

When I get the chance to workout with my buddy - I always push myself harder and laugh a lot more. It’s so good to have an inspirational partner working by your side. Workout buddies are the best! When you can also feed off each other’s passion and drive for life and success - it makes it even more worthwhile. So when you are struggling to get moving, surround yourself with people who lift you up and make you want to jump higher!

Accelerate Health and Performance: Master Your Body Weight, Then Master The Weights Room (Part 1)

There has been an amazing shift in thinking when it comes to health and fitness over the last ten years or so. No longer do we see weight rooms completely dominated by only the biggest guys while the smaller males and females are left to slog it out on the treadmills.
HALLELUJAH! The internet has spread the gospel of the barbell.

More and more people are realising that weight training is the most effective weight loss/weight management training technique of all. Fewer ladies are approaching Personal Trainer saying "I don't want to get too bulky." because they already know that there is very little chance of that happening. Smaller guys are able to show up and deadlift 150% of their bodyweight in the comfort of knowing that pound for pound the gorilla shaped man beasts can't match him.

It's great...ish.
See here's the thing...with everyone having an iTelephone any Joe or Joanne can jump on the World Wide Interweb and download a training program from the Google Drive and upload it to their My Space account and head to the gym.
But should they? Are they ready for the program they got from NapsterBook?
Often, the answer is no.
See there is this amazing piece of equipment that we often forget to utilise!
Our own body.

A good Body Weight Squat is thoroughly under estimated being able to control a Paused Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat is undervalued, the ability to effectively hinge at the hip is paramount and the art of being to perform many clean push ups is slowly being lost.
And why is this so bad?
Because too many people are in the gym doing shallow squats, being unable to balance and stabilise unilaterally (on one leg), turning into a question mark doing deadlifts and doing nothing but bench press because "Babes don't care about legs!"

* Trust me...they definitely do care!
It might not get you 4000 likes on InstaMSN but it will get your body moving well and allow you to develop some serious athletic potential that will ultimately lead to more #gainz no matter what you're trying to achieve.
And this goes hand in hand with what we now know about the transference of work capacity from one movement to another or lack thereof...

Ever wondered why people can Lat Pulldown a whole stack which totals as much as or more than their bodyweight but they can't do as many reps on Chin Ups?
Ever wondered why people can Leg Press 400kg but they can often on Squat a quarter of that?
Ever wondered why people can Machine Press comfortably but their Push Up resembles someone doing The Worm on a dirty dance floor?
But on the flipside if they can Chin Up, Squat Heavy and perform a sick Push Up they can do the alternative (almost always) with ease?
Are you starting to see a pattern???

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Leg Press Machines or the people that use them. I use them with my clients every day...but not at the expense of the body's natural ability to Squat and Lunge, Hinge, Push and Pull Vertically or Push and Pull Horizontally as its own form of resistance.

Do it, trust me, you'll be better for it.

To Be Continued... In Part 2

As always, please forward all complaints and hate mail to the admin of Sunshine Coast Health and Fitness.

Guest Blogger Zachary Brady: Kilimanjaro for the Kids

5895 metres. A determined group of people. One incredibly important cause.

I'm Zachary Brady, a Sunshine Coast Personal Trainer and owner of Gorilla Bootcamp.
Up until late last year I had no idea I would soon be endeavouring on a journey to the other side of the world, in pursuit of conquering not only the highest mountain on the African continent, but the highest free standing mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro.
On July 4 our team of 8 will be standing at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, no doubt in complete awe, preparing to spend the next 5 days tackling this magnificent behemoth.

This is no easy feat due to the fast ascent, altitude sickness can bring down even the fittest of people. It takes smart, methodical training protocols to prepare for a challenge of this magnitude.
Over the next six months we will all be incorporating new and challenging training regimes including weighted mountain climbs, long distance tyre drags, High intensity training whilst limiting oxygen supply through the use of an elevation mask and cross training circuits among many other things. The main goal being to improve both cardiovascular and muscular endurance whilst building the necessary strength to face Mount Kilimanjaro with confidence.

Our minds however will not only be on the training at hand or reaching the summit, but also on the cause that drove us to take on this challenge in the first place...

Kilimanjaro for the Kids.

A selfless, not for profit charity drive created by Rhys Greedy along with Sunshine Coast Wish List Foundation, aiming to raise $10,000 dollars for the Nambour children’s paediatric ward.
This money will be used to make life more bearable and to put smiles on the faces of the beautiful children of ward 2F West, supplying them with new Tablets, TV upgrades, gaming consoles and more... To keep their spirits high whilst they undergo treatment.
Whilst Kilimanjaro for the kids was only launched in 2015, Rhys Greedy is no stranger to selfless acts of this nature.
While hiking the treacherous Kokoda trail in June 2014, an idea sparked in his mind and upon returning home Rhys teamed up with Lymphoma Australia and created 'Trek Toward a Cure',.
He endeavoured to and accomplished summiting both Mont Blanc (The highest mountain in western Europe at 4,800m) and making it to the Annapurna base camp in Nepal(4130m), raising $14,300 for both research and to assist Lymphoma patients based on the Sunshine Coast.
If this wasn’t enough, upon learning a Lymphoma patient he had met during 'Trek for a Cure' and formed a bond with had only months to live, Rhys took it upon himself to help Tara and her partner cross off a long time bucket-list dream, a holiday to Balinese paradise.
Through his hard work and the generosity of the community we live in, $7500 was raised and Tara & her partner were sent on the trip of a lifetime.

With our goal of raising as much money toward 'Kilimanjaro for the Kids' in the back of our minds, taking the 38,680 steps it takes on average to reach the summit will be a whole lot easier. Even when fatigue has set in and the path ahead seems like an impossible task, the thought of being able to help, even if only a little in contrast to what the little legends of ward 2F west are facing, will push us further up the mountain, until both the summit and our goal of $10,000 raised toward Kilimanjaro for the Kids are firmly beneath our feet.

If you’d like to help us to reach our goal and make life a little easier for the children of Ward 2F West please donate at:

Any help is extremely appreciated.
Thankyou.

AWA Sunshine Coast: The 2nd AWA 13 Week Challenge is coming!

At Athletes with Attitude, we pride ourselves on educating the community about the importance of physical activity. Our mission is to reach out to the local community and teach people why physical activity is really worth the time and effort.

Increasing your physical activity is a great way to have fun, and an awesome way to make like minded friends. Not to mention the positive effects on your body and mind. Physical activity affects your mood and how good you feel.

The benefits of regular exercise include:
  • Reducing stress
  • Improving sleep
  • Boosting your energy
  • Reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • Increasing your self-esteem

  • Not to mention it is great for your muscles, heart and lungs. Builds strong bones , prevent high blood pressure. Just a few of the benefits from a long long list.

Last year, we decided to run a 13 week challenge, free of charge. This was designed to give the community a taste of what we are trying to achieve, and the outcome was extremely successful. Athletes with Attitude is about to hold our 2nd challenge starting 10th February 2016. The Challenge runs for 13 weeks, and you have access to many boot camps, one on one’s with the Personal Trainers, events held throughout the challenge and lots more.

During the AWA 13 Week Challenge we promote a friendly atmosphere and provide an opportunity for the group to all 'get sweaty' together, making it easier to stay motivated. We create a warm family feel, where people can (and do) make new lasting friendships. As always, you can pop into the shop for the warm and fuzzy or the hard love (as required), these are the things that make the AWA Family unique. Our boot camp workouts are all about group camaraderie, not being shy about shouting encouragement and of course, having fun!

These group sessions focus on functional movements like push-ups, squats, sprints, and sit ups, providing killer workouts outside of the gym environment. Boot Camps provide a whole-body workout that builds strength, endurance and creates a sense of camaraderie among the participants. These high intensity workouts deliver results in a total body approach combining sprint intervals, bodyweight exercises, and high- intensity moves like kicking and punching. The key is limiting rest time in between each move to get the heart rate up and burning calories fast. A typical class last one hour and can burn around 600 calories, building strength and aerobic capacity all at the same time.

Athletes With Attitude’s aim is to have people from our community learning to love physical fitness and actively changing your lifestyle. We will support you all the way to achieve what goals you set yourselves.

You have everything to Gain and Nothing to lose (EXCEPT unwanted Kilos!)

Metafit Sunshine Coast: Christmas With Metafit

Christmas is getting closer and the weather is warming up, we can't hep but get excited! Bikini weather, laying by the pool or heading to the beach. That also means its the season of fruit, salads, cold drinks... All the good stuff. So how can we possibly manage to keep ourselves on track with christmas treats and parties left, right and centre? It's not easy, but it is absolutely do-able. We've come up with a list of 'to-do's' to keep you on track during the festive season.

Fresh Produce: There is an abundance of fresh, delicious produce in stores at this time of year. That means there is no excuses for not capitalising on a huge range of fresh 'wholefoods'. If you arent familiar with the term, 'wholefoods' are meals and snacks that arent processed and pre-packed.

Fun: Dont forget that the silly season is all about having FUN! Make the most of the beautiful weather here on the coast and workout outdoors. Soak up some Vitamin D. Take a hike up Mt Coolum. Go for a walk along the beach. Enjoy spending time with your friends and family in the fantastic environment around us.

Alcohol: it can be hard to say no to alcohol at this time of year, especially because its such a social activity to 'wine and dine'. If you feel compelled to enjoy a few drinks. Mix your spirits with soda water or still water with some fresh lemon or lime rather than soft drink. Or squeeze your own fresh juice, rather than buying concentrate juice.

Salads: Instead of having bread or rice with your protein (be it steak, chicken, prawns, tofu or whatever else floats your boat), opt for a generous serving of salad. By mixing through something like cooked quinoa, you can add texutre and make your salad much more filling.

Exercise: Just because its the holidays, doesnt mean you take a break from exercise too. When you chose to make daily exercise a part of your lifestyle, taking time off shouldnt be an option. Neglecting exercise for a long period over the holidays can set you back and make it difficult to get back on track. Exercise is great for physical and mental health all year round and really shouldnt fall by the wayside just becuase its Christmas.

To give you a little inspiration in the kitchen, check out this recipe below:

Salmon with Avocado, Lime and Mango Salsa

    4 (3 oz) Salmon Fillets

    2 tablespoons fresh Corriander, chopped

    Sprinkle of sea salt

    1 teaspoon Chilli Powder

    Sea salt

    Squeeze of fresh Lime

    Salsa:
1 avocado, pitted, peeled and diced

2 mango, pitted, peeled and diced

1 jalapeño, seeds and membranes removed, diced finely

    2 teaspoons honey...

    1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

    To Make The Salsa:
In a medium bowl, mix together diced mango, avocado, and jalapeño. Drizzle honey and lime juice over the mixture and toss in fresh corriander. Season with salt according to taste. Set aside until salmon is ready.

In a large pan, melt butter 1 tbsp over medium high heat. Sprinkle chili powder and sea salt on both sides of the salmon filets. Place filets in the pan, and cook for about 4 minutes per side, or until the salmon has a slightly flaky texture (exact time will depend on the thickness). Plate the salmon and squeeze lime juice over each fillet, and then top with the mango salsa.

Don't forget we will be still running classes of the Holidays. We are totally kid friendly so bring them along. Check us out on our Facebook page for loads of information on what we offer. Classes are run from Creekwood and Mudjimba Monday to Friday.

JaycasFit Activewear: New Years Resolution – How long does yours last?

The New Year is rapidly approaching and its time to dust off the old New Years Resolutions.

You know, the ones that are usually made on the night, after several too many glasses of wine, as you countdown to midnight. You know the kind, give up something or start something new.   This year, why not try something new?

Rather than one giant plan, that we often don’t stick with... Why not try something new and plan to make a small change in your life every month? (Yes I can hear you groaning now, every month!).

Just make one small change every month, do something that is challenging to you and that you can see yourself wanting to complete. Be it at home, in business, fitness or whatever you strive towards.

The change could be something simple, like changing your morning routine. Doing it for one month, after that time it has become a habit and it soon feels like a normal part of your life. The next month, pick something else. By the end of the year you will have made 12 changes to your life and will have had some wonderful experiences.

I once read how a guy did this for a year and was amazed how much he had seen, done and experienced in that year. One of the things he did in the month was to take a photo of something in his area everyday, when he looked back at all those photos from the year he was able to bring back every feeling and experience he had when taking each photo. He had recorded his life and enjoyed the process on the way.

We took this idea and tried it with our family. One of the great things we have done is starting a 'year jar' where we put experiences, wins, places we went, anything that we feel like putting in the jar (kids included) and at the end of the year we go for a picnic somewhere and open the jar and read all the notes in there for the year. We have found that this can also show us some of the great things we have achieved in the year.

Another idea we love is our 'grateful for' at the end of the day. Before we go to bed we all take it in turns to say what we are grateful for, learnt for the day, what made us smile and what we are most proud of ourselves for. As parents we found this was a great way of catching up with some of the things our boys are feeling and doing during their day, but also allowing us to see the greatness we have in our lives.

So don’t just make a New Years Resolution, just make a commitment to change one simple thing in your life each day for a month, learn how to experience and appreciate more of the your own lives every day.

Remember it is your Fun Active Life.

    Ben:

"Having been in the industry since I was 18 years old I have learnt and tailored my training techniques to work with my clients to achieve their goals. I understand that no two people are the same, therefore no two people will ever be treated the same. I work with you to determine YOUR goals and together we set a goal date to be achieved by. We will then plan every step of your journey.
By having myself to focus on your fitness, and Danica to focus on your nutrition, dietary assessment and requirements, you are giving yourself the best chance at success. There will never be a generic diet plan or exercise program! Your whole journey is tailored to YOUR GOALS!"

    Danica:

"Our food philosophy is all about enjoying a healthy balanced diet, without jumping on the "Fad Diet" bandwagon.
We educate our clients on making healthy choices and not falling into the trap of being afraid to eat real food.
"Quick fix" powders and shakes will give you nothing more than expensive wee. Food is the key for all your nutrient needs."

"The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses. Behind the lines, in the gym and our there on the road, long before i dance under those lights" - Muhammed Ali
Our passion for you and your goals comes from our competitiveness! We both Hate to Lose! Set the date to "Dance under those lights" and together we will give you the tools to win your fight!
